Apple ties up with Taiwanese firm to manufacture A6 processor

Apple has finally dumped its traditional chip supplier, Samsung Electronics for its next generation A6 chips. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) has started manufacturing Apple's ARM-based A6 processor, sources informed.

Presently, TSMC is manufacturing test chips.  It would get actual orders for the chips would depend on its yield rate, or the amount of chips per batch that come out with no defects, insiders revealed. However, TSMC has got all the authorization and details ready.

Samsung and Apple are suing each other over tablet-related patents. This has severed the business ties between the two companies. Apple has sued Samsung in the US, alleging that the Galaxy products replicate the designs and technologies used for the iPad and iPhone. Later, Samsung countersued Apple for copying its Galaxy products.

Many analysts are dubbing the move as a riskier option. Apple holds a greater responsibility for testing its designs and supervising the production process. However, TSMC has worked with ARM architecture, widely used by Apple to create power-efficient mobile chips.

Samsung, on other hand, may offer a very low price to save the other orders.
