Lenovo's aggressive approach towards expansion of distribution channel and steady PC growth in Asia-Pacific region has majorly benefitted the company.
Acer plunged to fourth position in wake of its management shakeup. The company’s CEO Gianfranco Lanci quit the post which further led to the mismanagement of inventory in the company's distribution channel in Europe, Middle East and Africa.
Though overall PC shipments grew in Asia-Pacific, the U.S. and Western Europe witnessed weak PC demand because of tablet-driven market. Worldwide PC shipments summed 84.4 million units during the second quarter, increasing by just 2.6 percent compared against the last year’s quarter.
Lenovo's global PC shipments amounted to 10.3 million units during the quarter, while Acer's shipments totaled 9.2 million units, losing ground by 10.1 percent.
Lenovo now is fast approaching towards the second slot. The PC maker’s market share during the quarter was 12.2 percent, closing in on Dell, which reported a 12.9 percent market share.
